This rod was specifically built for long range tuna fishing trips out of SO CAL
This rod is built on a Calstar Grafighter 7 foot 80-130 lb 770 XXH blank .. this is a new Grafighter blank that was rolled out at the Fred Hall show this past March.
This 7 foot eglass/graphite composite rod is super strong, light weight and smallish in diameter. The action is exceptional for such a big poundage blank. This rod is not that "stiff as a new broom" kind of action.
I used and silver Alps aluminum gimbal to start. I like this particular gimbal because of the deep side slots. You can move the rod from side to side and better keep the gimbal on the pin in your fighting belt.
The rear grip is a ribbed EVA foam. We found that the aluminum butts were too slick to hold onto if you had a fish that ran under the boat, and you were leaning over the side trying to keep your line off the bottom. So we changed the rear grips on our long range rods to the ribbed EVA. It is easy to grip and easy to hold for long periods of time.
The marine grade aluminum reel seat is also from Alps. It is a 24 mm centra lock reel seat. That simply means the hoods are always in alignment.
I used the cork / foam rail rod foregrip. We recently made a little change and started covering this foregrip with X flocking.. It simply looks nicer ..
This grip can be rested on the rail while you are fighting a fish and it wont get damaged. Very tough stuff. Because i had a 7 foot rod to work with i used the 14 inch long fore grip. So you have plenty of room to walk your hands up the grip.
The guides are the Aftco Heavy Duty roller guides. Again because this is a longer rod i used 7 of these guides plus a big head roller tip. These guides are equally as efficient with either braid or mono line. The big head roller tip gives you plenty of knot clearance. If you can't get your knots thru this tip .. you may want to consider some knot tying lessons.
We built this rod in a blacked out style. That simply means we didn't put any fancy wraps or trim on the rod. I started offering this style rod about a year ago, it has been amazingly popular.
The deal is, If i don't do fancy wraps and trim on a rod it saves me a lot of time. So we lowered our labor charge so we can offer the blacked out rods at a very good price. This way anglers may purchase a custom built, no frills rod, that is hand crafted with the finest components, at a very good price. I belive these blacked out rods are the best value in custom rods anywhere.
BUT .. if you like your rods with fancy wraps and trim. Here is a web site where we store some of our pictures .. there are over 200 different fancy wraps in a ton of colors for you to view.

If you prefer .. We will build this same rod with these same components using the Super Seeker 2X4 rod blank for only $30 more.
These rods may or may not be in stock when ordered. If we are out of stock the rod will be built from orders placed thru this listing ... if not in stock, the approximate time to craft and ship these rods is 10-14 days. You will be notified of and approximate shipping date with-in a few days of placing your order upcharge .. ...
If you are the winning bidder we will place your name or boats name on the rod at no additional charge . the rod is custom crafted right here in the USA by BaR-BaR Tackle .. custom orders are always welcome
