This is a Calstar Grafighter 30-80 lb jigging rod 

This is the updated version to our line up of custom crafted jigging rods.  

The action on this blank is excellent .. it is one of my personal favorites for yellow fin fishing ... It has great action and it is fast to get to the back bone of the rod .. It a pleasure to rip a 10 ounce jig thru the water column or to turn the head of a big grouper or tuna with this rod.

  This rod weights in at about  16 ounces in the 5 foot 6 inch version. That is fully built .. with heavy duty guides, a triangular fore grip and a shark skin rear grip.

This rod is built with Fuji hardware, and a Sharkskin rear grip.  It is a 5 foot 9 inches long ..

This blank comes in a 7 foot length .. so this rod may be built from a little over 7 foot down to just under 5  foot ... or any place in between. 

All of our rods are crafted with the angler in mind.  We are using and heavy duty saltwater aluminum gimbal. You will need a strong gimbal if you get hooked up to a big Yellow fin or any blue fin. 

The 13 1/2 inch rear grip is made of Sharkskin.  This is a extremely durable material manufacture to withstand the harshest of environment. We find it to be perfect for the rear grip on most rods. It adheres directly to the blank, this will give you better hand to rod feel. The Sharkskin grip will help keep the rear grip smaller in diameter and easier to hold. The Sharkskin will allow you to place the rear of your rod under your arm with less bulk. That will make the rod more comfortable to hold while jigging. The rear grip is 16 inches total length from the bottom of the reel seat to the bottom of the gimbal.

The reel seat is the Fuji Palm support saltwater graphite.  This reel seat has aligned hoods and over sized lobe nuts that are very easy to tighten. The palm support will allow you to jig the rod with less strain on your hand and it also helps keep the rod more stable in your hands, it helps cut down the twisting and turning. The graphite is easy and comfortable hold and keeps the rod light weight.

The 10 inch EVA fore grip is triangular shaped, we had this grip custom manufacture for our rods. You will find it very comfortable and easy to hold. The triangular shape will assist you in holding the rod. It helps keep the rod stable and eliminates some of the twisting and turning you get with conventional rods. 

The transitions from the reel seat, and to the blank are seamless with this fore grip.  

On these rods we have incorporated a rail rocker .. this is also one of the components we have manufactured exclusively for BaR-BaR Tackle. 

The rail rocker is simply a piece of heavy aluminum tubing that is concave .. It's function is to give you a place on the rod to rest your rod on a rail if you need too .. the concave shape will help keep it on the rail where you want it .. and by using the rail rocker you won't damage your fore grip.  If you don't want the rail rocker just let us know at the time you place the order> we will not put it on your rod.

The 7 guides and tip on this rod are the Fuji Concept Alconite Low Rider heavy duty casting  guides, they are strong, hard and light. Perfect for all braided lines. One of the reasons we went to the Low Rider guides on this rod is we like the height the guide keeps the line off the blanks and fore grip ...

If you take a look at the pictures you can see the line from a regular size jigging reel .. in this case and Alutecnos Gorilla 12 ... the line will come to the center of the first guide off the spool.  This set up will make the rod cast, or drop or retrieve your jigs a little easier with less friction, but when under stress they line starts working from the first guide.

We used the Low Rider guides for the first 4 guides .. to keep the action where we like it we switched to the Alconite casting guides for the guides closest to the tip. This eliminates any dead spots you may get with the wide foot stance on the Low Rider guide frames on the tip portion of the rod. It is a very good guide set up ..

   These guides will be considerably heavier then the guides you find on off the shelf jigging rods.  They are a perfect match for a 40-80 lb rod built to tackle the most extreme fishing conditions. They are made for braided line. The tip is a 10 mm so you can wind most line to leader knots thru. The guides are all under wrapped in black thread to insure no guide to blank contact, then the guides are attached with 4 layers of black C size thread for maximum strength and minimum bulk.

This rod is built for jigging, but is tremendously versatile, it cast very well and with the sharkskin grips can double as a bottom or even a trolling rod. Once you have this rod in your arsenal it will most definitely become your " go to rod "

We have gone to the "blacked out" spartan style of rods so we can offer the best components and rod blanks at a lower price. We have found that a lot of our customers want the best rod at the best price and don't want to pay for the wraps and trim. If you like your rods to have fancy wraps and trim, It isn't an issue.
