This rod is 5 foot 6 inches in length with the Aftco removable aluminum Unibutt attached. It is powered with a 60-unlimited  Calstar Grafighter rod blank and Winthrop Express guide with and Winthrop Excel roller tip.

This rod starts with the all black short bent Aftco Unibutt .. this is an 30-80 lb butt that will except reels up to and 80 W. ..

We used a 60-unlimited  Calstar Grafighter rod blank for this rod.  It is the the biggest poundage stand up blank Calstar manufactures. You will be amazed at how light weight this rod is.  The stiffer action of the Grafighter blanks is a very good match for the 5 foot 6 inch length and the Winthrop Express 80-130lb roller guides.

The Winthrop guide frames are black with silver stainless steel rollers, the tip is a solid titanium tip with a titanium roller and ball bearings.  The guides are the Express and the tip is the Excel .. I prefer the Excel roller tip because it is manufactured from a solid piece of titanium .. hard ..  so if you reel a swivel thru .. it wont ding up the tip.  

The rod is black .. the butt is black the wraps are black and the fore grips are black. 

Last year i started building what i call a Spartan Style rod .. it is all black ..no fancy wraps and no trim .. just the best components available at the best price available.

By not fancy wrapping and trimming these rods i save about 1/3 of the time it takes to build a rod .. so i deduct 1/3 of the labor cost from the price of these rods. This is the very best value you will find in a custom built, top of the line rod anywhere.

 Period

  The fore grip is our triangular shaped 13 in fore grip. I designed and had this grip manufactured exclusively for BaR-BaR Tackle. You'll find the design is easy to hold for long periods of time and it is a great help in eliminating the twisting and turning you  get when a conventional rod is under stress. I simply don't know any one that has tried the triangle shape grip and didn't like them. On this particular rod i cut finger groves for a customer that is a charter captain. The groves are hand cut so they may not be exact from rod to rod .. but they feel great.

Each guide is under wrapped in black thread then the guides are attached with 4 layers of C size black thread for maximum strength.

I'm thinking I'm going to call this series of rods the Leroy Brown Series ..  if you know the song .. you know the rod.    

 Don't let the beauty of this rod fool you, it is a very functional and exceptionally powerful rod. I will also have a 50-80 lb version that will be on ebay as soon as i can get it built. 

It is going to be wrapped the same with the same components ... except....  The blank will be the 50-80 Calstar Grafighter and the guides will be the Winthrop Express with the Excel roller tip in the 50-80 lb class. The butt will be the same as on this rod.
