Manufacturer's Blurb: Fluorocarbon technology has now advanced past the stiff, hard leader to a soft, manageable, easy-casting fishing line. Berkley Vanish refracts light exactly like water does, making it virtually invisible to fish. Berkley Vanish just may make the difference in clear water situations where fish are highly pressured or "line shy". The first truly fishable fluorocarbon line, Berkley Vanish lays out nicely and casts easily, just like nylon monofilament, making it great for finesse presentations. Berkley Vanish doesn't absorb water, so it's able to maintain 100% of its knot and line strength when wet. And it's low stretch formula increases sensitivity and handles the most powerful hook sets with outstanding fish fighting power. Berkley Vanish. You've got to see it to believe it.

5 Stars Great line. Great price, 2009-11-08

I have berkley vanish on all my rods except for the few I use braid on. It is one of the best lines on the market and I have tested it tough; from fishing tournaments every weekend to fishing farm ponds, this line is great and I would strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a good floro.

I spent 2008 trying to find a good fluro line. The price point and availability of berkley vannish makes it attractive. However, as many othes have noted on the net, the line is very fragile and breaks quite easily. Please do not buy this line. There are so many other quaility fluoros available that only a fool would contiue to support this product. How they continue to get away with putting something like this on the market is beyond me.

I have just spooled up with some 10# in the Crimson red for steelhead and silver fishing on our local rivers. We throw spinners for these fish and i use a limber 8.5ft rod and spinning reel

First time out I had troubles with getting a good strong knot, but if I made sure I had lots of water on the knot to keep friction down and left a little bigger tag I got good results (I usually like to snip the tag real close to the knot). The line cast very nicely and was easy to control. The red contrast was not as bright as I had hoped, but it was easier to see than clear line. It also seemed to improve as the line was wetted.

The first fish I brought in was a 13# silver. I had set the drag fairly light since I was new to this line and we were fishing from a boat.

The second fish (10.5#) was pretty hot and we had to chase it down river a ways. In the process it got wrapped on a snag underwater. After pulling from every which direction for literally 5 minutes we gave up and were going to motor upstream to break it off, when suddenly things broke loose and a branch with a big clump of leaves and a fish came to the surface and was netted.

The line was badly scuffed for over about a 10 foot section of line, but it held and I really had to tug on it to break it.

So, it will be interesting to see how this line holds up over the steelhead season starting up in a few weeks.

5 Stars Decent at first..., 2008-10-29

Decent at first, but then it starts to break apart rather easily. I really liked it on my first fishing trip with the 8 lb test spooled on to my spinning reel. But on my 2nd fishing trip with this line, I lost a nice 4-pound bass (estimate) just 2 feet away from the boat because the line snapped. My drag was set properly, the line just gave in and snapped. Caught nothing but smaller bass the rest of the day. Had no problems with the smaller bass.

About 2 weeks later, was on the river using the same line. I felt a big tug on my line, waited about a second and set my hook. I was thinking I had me a big smallmouth or northern. A 5-second struggle ensued, only to have the line break once again before I could even see what was on the end of my line. Got home that day and took it off my spool. Don't think I will ever use it again.

10 lb test - zero tensil strength - was able to easily pull it apart with my hands...didn't even make it to my reel (thankfully)....wish I had found the reviews first.....

2 Stars Not great but not as bad as everyone says, 2005-09-01

I'm not as pessimistic about Vanish as the other reviewer but it is pretty bad. I use it because I bought it and I doubt I will buy anymore. The new Berkley Vanish Transition is a different story though. I really like that line and would probably give it a 4 out of 5

This line is probably the weakest line on the market. It does have the small diameter of fluorocarbon, it does have the "vanshing" capablity of fluorocarbon, but it sure as hell does not have the strength that is desired in fluorocarbon. I have found that in order to get the in to be strong enough, you have to jump up several #tests, which then eliminates the advantages of being thin, and more apt to be seen by those finicky fish.

This stuff is definitely not a good choice for a mainline, and hardly even a decent choice for a leader material. I would recommend to steer clear of this stuff.
