The Facts: The Shimano Stella spinning reel's drive gear is attached directly to the handle shaft for increased power transmission, and the pinion gear is twice as hard as those in Shimano's standard reels. The All-Weather Drag system uses a waterproof gasket and natural wool washers for low start-up inertia and 48 points-per-turn adjustability. Rubber shields at the rotor and body prevent dirt, sand and water from entering and damaging the drivetrain. Titanium-coated Guard Fins protect the body and rotor from impact. Arm cam on the bail keeps slack line in contact with line roller to reduce tangles and cuts. S-Finish, multicoated treatment produces a durable, beautiful finish.

SHIMANO STL4000F Having purchased this reel[first generation
stella] approx. 7yrs ago I thought I was purchasing a reel that
would last a good many yrs.As it turns out the $479 reel is now
obsolete and there are no parts being made available by Shimano
nor are they offering a replacement at a pro-rated cost.The spool
has quit bobbing up and down.Also there are no schematics
available for what they call discontinued reels.Cant be found on
server?

I used the Stella last week on a guided fishing trip in the florida outback going for snook.
The reels I used were 3 yrs old (4000,5000)models.
I have a lot of reels home, some shimanos and penn reels that I really like.
When I felt that reel in my hand I could feel where the money went. What a difference!
I know it is expensive, but it is far and away the smoothest retreve and casting reel I have ever felt.
If you can afford it, and want the best, this has got to be it.

hands down the best spinning reel i have. it performs flawlessly with the 20# suffix pro. i have used it on the party boats here to boat ling cod, halibut and rockfish and from shore on stripers and perch and this reel has never skipped a beat. a little pricey but it is pretty much the only spinning reel i use now for almost everything.
